The Plough - The Gem of Ivy Hatch
The standard of pub restaurants in Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas is high however The Plough in Ivy Hatch in my opinion is without a doubt one of the front runners.
Following a refurb last year I visited a few weeks back for the first time and I had a wonderful evening. I think a lot of pubs are now looking to raise the standard of their dining experience for customers and The Plough has certainly done that.
The pub has a glamourous new look from the grey and gold marbled bar area with its colourful velvet seats to the stunning flower covered ceiling in the conservatory area. However, it is not just the gorgeous new interior that makes The Plough so appealing.....
The food is nothing short of excellent.
After perusing the cocktail menu and putting in our order we were presented with homemade seeded rolls with a burnt leek salt butter. The rolls were warm out the oven and we were hit by that 'fresh made bread' smell as soon as they were placed on the table.
For starters I decided to try the sautéed foie gras with celeriac, apple, ruby port and sichuan crumble. The presentation was beautiful and dish itself extremely tasty.
For main course we decided on one of the specials of the evening which was a chateaubriand served with chips, braised cabbage with shallot crumb, vine roasted cherry tomatoes and a wild mushroom truffle sauce. The chateaubriand was hand carved at your table which I have not experienced any where other than a fine dining restaurant. The meat was pink just how I like it and was extremely soft, the braised cabbage was a great addition to the plate.
The team know the menu like the back of their hand and are well versed in the skills and etiquette that it takes to create a great dining experience for their customers from the big things down to the tiniest details. It would seem that they have all been trained to be successful in the hospitality industry. They are a credit to their manager and themselves!
With a full belly and a sense of contentment we headed off home. I will certainly be returning to The Plough and think it is a must visit for anyone in the area. A huge thank you to the team for ensuring we had a fantastic evening.
