Worthing: A trip to the sea-side

There's nothing quite like fish and chips at the beach. I feel like it's a totally different experience than when you have it from a local take away.

For me, part of the pleasure of eating fish and chips is having your meal in a box or news paper with a wooden fork, sitting right by the sea with the smell of beachy salt in the air and sea gulls crying in the distance.

Sea Lanes Café in Worthing provides you with exactly that experience. The café is right at the top of the beach and offers its customers a generous menu, as well as options for children. To top it off they have a wonderful selection of homemade cakes and bakes available for you to purchase should you fancy something sweet.

Currently they have a large marquee outside the property to provide shelter/shade for those waiting for their take away and your furry friends are welcome in this area. The bathrooms are open which is a big plus and to make things even easier there is a large car park at the front of the property which provides free parking.

There is a sanitising table before you enter the property and a sign requesting masks to be worn when entering the café to make your order.

The staff were pleasant and worked quickly to take your order. You are then provided with a number to take to wait outside. When your order is ready, your number is called and a member of staff brings your food to you.

I had a large cod and chips which was packed neatly in a box. I sat on a bench right at the top of the beach in the sunshine and enjoyed every mouthful. It was the experience I had been waiting for! You are given a generous portion and all condiments are available in sachets to take. I was happy to see that a wedge of lemon was also included in my box.

There are plenty of bins in the area for you to put your rubbish which is a great plus when so many people are having takeaways.

After eating lunch I took my dog for a nice long walk along the pebble beach. It was perfect timing as the tide was out and although a little windy the weather was glorious.

Following our long walk, I fancied something sweet and warm before heading home. As you drive towards the pier you will find Marine Crescent car park and here is where I found Ruby's Rustica a mobile coffee and bakery take away.

These ladies are awesome! They have a selection of wonderful delights on offer and it took me a while to choose my order due to the amazing choices but I went with a Nutella hot chocolate...MIND BLOWN. Hands down one of the best hot chocolates I've ever had. I also loved that they hid some marshmallows in between the layers of cream on the top 😋.

If you're looking for an easy day out that doesn't break the bank I would highly recommend a trip to Worthing, Sea Lane Café and Ruby's Rustica!
